I’ve had a couple of frustrating days troubleshooting my pc. The first sign yesterday, was the fact it would lock up at random, and require a hard reboot. I scanned for viruses, spyware, etc. No luck.
I thought, time to refresh C drive. I copied e-mail stuff and a few files to my big partition, and proceeded to format and re-install Windows XP. During the installation, it froze up again. 3 seperate re-installs. I pulled all the cards out, except the video and tried again. Froze again. Shit. I took my crippled pc to Cary (PC Wizard) and he noticed 5 capacitors on the motherboard that had cracked and leaked out. He determined this was the fault. Now, I could order the capacitors and have Cary replace them, but, I am in dier need of an upgrade. Only mobo, cpu and ram required, and prices on those items are very reasonable now. I will upgrade, now that I seen Doom 3 running on Thomas’s pc. WOW.
Side note: I do have 3 other pc’s in the house to keep me posting. :)

Wohoo! New PC! Sucks your old one died, but if it gave you a reason to get a Doom 3 box, all the better :D

I’m also thinking of an upgrade Al. What direction are you taking? Barton 2500 with the Asus mobo? 1/2 gig Ram? That’s probably whta I’ll be doing.

Yup, the Barton 2500, ASUS A7N8X-E DELUXE and 2 sticks of OCZ DDR400 256mb. That should tie me over for awhile. :)

Im thinking of upgrading also,
256 meg of ram doesn’t cut it anymore.
all my intern stuff as got to go soon.
mobo, cpu, ram, vid card, sound card, and a 200 gig wouldn’t hurt.
